PAUL TAYLOR -  BIO
Paul Taylor was born and raised near Sydney, Australia.  If you speak with him on the phone, you’ll quickly detect an Australian accent although he has lived in the U.S.A for over a decade.  His Australian heritage is carried on today through his distinctive kangaroo logo that you’ll find on each of his custom frames.

Taylor’s passion for cycling and bicycles began in Australia as a racer back in the late 1980s and early 1990s before a serious crash prematurely ended his racing career.  Rather than endure a 9-5 desk job, Paul threw his boundless energy into learning the craft of building custom bicycle frames.  According to Paul, “I’ve always been good with my hands and enjoy building things.  After my crash in 1992, I wanted desperately to stay involved in the cycling industry.  Taking the next step toward building bicycles felt natural to me.”

Paul apprenticed in the U.S. under Californian frame builder Chris Kelly at Kelly Bike.  It was while working with Chris that Paul learned to paint as well.  As fate would have it, adjacent to Kelly Bike’s fabrication shop was D&D Cycling, which specializes in custom bike frame painting.  Today, Paul is one of a few custom frame builders remaining who do their own painting.  According to Paul, “I enjoy painting bicycles.  Most builders hate to paint because its very time consuming.  I love it because I get to use the creative, artistic side of my brain.”  Paul’s love of painting is apparent when you witness first hand the beauty and quality of every finished Taylor bicycle.
